All these required materials are inexpensive and available everywhere. Moreover, you can create more and more unique ideas for your outfits with these supplies. After all, you will not be a beginner always; you will advance in your skill, and then you can add more items to your stockpile. However, this article will discuss the basic supplies that a beginner needs to start embroidery.

You will need these essentials and tools for embroidery:

To start the embroidery work, the first thing you will need is a piece of fabric. You can choose a fabric according to your choice, but a woven fabric makes the embroidery work easier. However, there are different options, such as linen, muslin and felt, etc.

A hoop is essential for embroidery projects as it holds the fabric securely and tightly. So, you can do your embroidery work without facing your fabric slipping off. Moreover, the embroidery hoops are available in different sizes. So, you can get any size according to the size of your design. It is effortless to place your fabric in the hoop. All you need to do is loosen the screw and detach both rings.

Now, place the fabric on the inner part of the hoop and then place the outer part on it and press it down. Once done, squeeze the screw again to secure your fabric.

It would help if you had all sizes of needles available in your tool kit. Although every needle can go through the fabric, you need a specific needle to do a specific task. So, make sure to use the correct needle to save your time and avoid mess. You can find three types of embroidery needles available in the market:

A tapestry needle comes with a short tube, a blunt tip, and a comparatively longer eye. Most people prefer to use it for cross stitch embroidery projects as it doesn’t prick the fabric because of its blunt tip. Also, it quickly passes through the open holes inside the fabric.

It comes with a sharp tip and a medium-long eye. Moreover, its eye is comparatively more extended than the needle tube. Crewel needle is one of the essential needles that most people use for their hand embroidery projects. You can find this type of needle in sizes from 1 to 12. The size 1 is the largest while the size 12 is the smallest one.

The milliner needle is also known as the straw needle. It comes with a smaller and round eye. Moreover, it has a sharp tip and a long tube. So, it makes it ideal to do wrapped stitches such as French knots, bullion knots & cast-on stitches. It is one of the best needles for beginners to do hand embroidery.

Mostly, beginners lose their needles during embroidery works. They are new in this field and are not so organized. So, it is best to have a needle minder keep their needle in place. A needle minder is an enamel pin that has a powerful magnet. While you finish your embroidery or want to have a break, put your needle on the needle minder and it won’t lose.

It is wise to keep different sizes of scissors in your stockpile to do various embroidery works. So, make sure to have a sharply pointed scissor to snip the threads or to cut extra strands of threads on the stitches. Additionally, it would also help if you had a large scissor to cut the fabric. Multipurpose scissors do the best job of cutting patterns.

Thread is an essential part of your embroidery projects. You can find different types of threads available in the market. However, floss is the most common that is available in multicolor. Moreover, it comes with six different layers, and you can combine or separate them to do amazing experiments.

Similarly, pearl cotton also comes with twisted threads. However, you can’t separate them. They are available in both coils & reels and have a thicker bumpy texture. So, they look better online or with chain stitches making them beautiful and denser.

Floss bobbin is essential to keep your thread organized to avoid mess. While you are a beginner, you need to wind your thread on a floss bobbin. However, remember to mark the color number on the floss bobbin for your convenience.

A marking pen is essential to transfer your pattern to your fabric. However, make sure to use a water-soluble pen to keep your fabric unstained. So, once done your embroidery, you can wash the fabric, and the mark will disappear.

If you are a beginner, you will need these materials for embroidery:

The three types of fabrics used in embroidery projects are as follows:

Felt: It is a nonwoven fabric.

Silk, polyester, linen, wool & cotton: Woven fabrics.

French terry fabric & yarn: These are wool fabrics.

Quilting cotton is one of the best fabrics for embroidery works since it is very lightweight. However, you can use some other fabrics such as cotton muslin or linen because they also make your embroidery projects easier.

It is good to keep your materials for embroidery organized to avoid mess. There are lots of small size containers and other organizers available. So, keep your tools and materials in place since you need them anytime to start a project.
