Double cheeseburger and potato chips at Billy Goat Tavern, 430 Lower Michigan Ave. in Chicago. (John J. Kim / Chicago Tribune)

Few late-night bites satisfy like the Billy Goat “cheezeborger,” perched on pillowy soft potato buns and, if you’re smart about it, piled with perfect pickles. Kickin’ since 1934 and the inspiration for a 1970s fan-favorite “Saturday Night Live” skit, it’s woven into the fabric of Chicago lore (just ask Cubs fans) and a great spot to end the night. While the Madison Street location closest to Pitchfork closes at midnight Friday and Saturday, the original location below the Magnificent Mile on Lower Michigan Avenue stays open until at least 2 a.m. on weekends. 1535 W. Madison St., 312-733-9132; 430 Lower N. Michigan Ave., 312-222-1525; billygoattavern.com

Not only does Harold's serve the most popular fried chicken in Chicago, by visiting you also get to experience the wonder that is mild sauce. This unique condiment, sweet but tangy, is virtually unknown outside the city limits. (Nick Kindelsperger / Chicago Tribune)

While each Harold’s is independently franchised, they all have the finger-licking deliciousness in common. The West Loop location, which stays open late on weekends (but closes at 9 p.m. Sunday), also offers delivery through DoorDash, Grubhub and Postmates. In the South Loop, a short walk from Lolla’s south entrance, Harold’s Chicken 88 serves beer as well, but closes at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 1501 W. Madison St., 312-226-9866, haroldswestloop.com; 1450 S. Michigan Ave., 312-964-5003, instagram.com/haroldschicken88meetsbeer; 612 S. Wabash Ave., 312-362-0442, haroldschickenshacktogo.com

Hot dog stands are treasured in the Windy City, and few more so than Jim’s Original, which has been open since 1939. Its claim to fame is the creation of the Maxwell Street Polish sausage, heaped with caramelized sweet onions and hot sport peppers. It’s open until 1 a.m., so grab a bite on your way home — or as sustenance for a late night out. 1250 S. Union Ave., 312-733-7820, jimsoriginal.com

When imagining the perfect dive bar — with enough flat-screen televisions to satisfy a crowd, well-worn bar fixtures and a sprawling beer list — you might as well be picturing Kasey’s Tavern. Its credentials are well-established as a Printers Row neighborhood favorite and the second-oldest tavern in Chicago, and it’s got dozens of Midwestern craft beers and thin-crust pizzas to shore up your base before a long night of toasting to your victorious team. 701 S. Dearborn St., 312-427-7992, kaseystavern.com
