KUIU Targets Deer Hunters with Proximity Line - Bowhunter

KUIU's new Proximity line will keep you warm in cold-weather environments and undetected in close-encounter situations.

For years, KUIU focused on its western roots and the mountaineering-quality clothing lineup that the company’s late founder Jason Hairston believed in.

A western guy who played football for the San Francisco 49ers, Hairston had a love for the mountains and the tough gear that is required there, both being a part of his DNA as a hunter and as an apparel making businessman.

“I always liked the mountains, always enjoyed hunting, was never satisfied with the products that were available at the hunting retailers so I went and started a brand called Sitka back in 2005,” Hairston said in a Fox Business news story a few years back. “It was essentially moving materials and fabrics and designs from the outdoor market, what you’d find in an REI, and move it over to the hunting market.”

After he sold his first company and started his next, Hairston carried the same desires, beliefs, and commitment levels in designing and building the best hunting duds that money can buy — products that were not only fashionable, but also simply the best.

And true to form, as KUIU carved out a niche, demanding hunters noticed and began buying up some of the most innovative clothes to be found, especially if you’ve got an elk tag, a mule deer tag, or an antelope tag in your back pocket. The result has been business success, industry innovation, and an intensely loyal lineup of customers whose closets are full of the brand and its hunting and lifestyle clothes and products.

But while the fans of the brand are many, one thing that has remained a bit of a challenge for KUIU is the specific needs of whitetail hunting customers, a group of people in the Midwest, the South, the East Coast, and even Texas — outdoors enthusiasts who want stylish, bombproof clothing. You know, something that the Dixon, Calif. based company has specialized in delivering for years.

But those same whitetail hunters also want — or actually, they also NEED — clothing that is purposeful, warm, and whisper quiet as a church mouse on Sunday morning.

To that end, and after numerous requests from KUIU’s loyal customer base and a lot of design and development over many months, the company has delivered a winning lineup this week to meet such needs thanks to the new Proximity Series of KUIU clothing. This is a system that was built the same way the company has designed everything it has produced: discover what the problem is, then find a way to solve that problem with better fabrics and designs.

The end result is an ultra-quiet and over-engineered jacket and pants that are years in the making. Built from the ground up, this lineup is custom built for those who are stationary in a treestand when the November rut is rocking, going up and down climbing sticks, and slipping through the doors of a ground blind in cold-weather environments where whitetails and their noses and ears are on high alert.

The products also work out west when a late-season bull elk is passing through a narrowing lane or a stalking bowhunter is slipping into a mule deer rutting hotspot during frigid weather, times when the slightest movement and noise can produce big buck and big bull spooking noises.

According to a news release, the new Proximity clothing lineup features an insulated jacket and pant in the stellar camo that KUIU is known for, as well as being engineered for silence and the toughest conditions that serious hunters face in the field.

"Whether you are hunting whitetails in the mid-west or stalking late-season mule deer in cold environments, the Proximity was engineered with a variety of features ideal for hunting in these conditions,” said Kevin Wilkerson, vice president of brand marketing for KUIU. “The versatile jacket and pant combined with one of our camouflage patterns excel in an elevated stand, in prairie grasses, and on mountain hillsides."

If it’s a chance to slip an arrow through an opening, gently squeeze a trigger on the buck of a lifetime, or simply stay warm, comfortable, and quiet when the north wind blows, this new lineup can get you there.

True to its roots, the new Proximity series has an innovative technical jacket and pant, mountaineering tough kind of gear that is purposefully built and designed to excel in rugged and cold spots when remaining silent isn’t an option. Well, if a hunter wants to notch a tag, that is.

The company designed the new line with industry-best technologies, using proprietary materials and manufacturing processes to achieve the end result. That includes a low-sheen brushed fabric along with an extremely wind-resistant SynthaCell® foam membrane for superior wind protection and warmth retention, musts in a late whitetail stand.

In a clothing lineup that the company developed from scratch, the new Proximity jacket and pant arrive on the market with specific purpose-driven features that stand hunting and cold weather hunting all but demands.

One way that the Proximity jacket delivers on that promise is by offering a patent-pending removable hood, a safety harness port, hand-warmer holders, and pit vents.

Meanwhile, the Proximity pant also features full-length side zippers for easy on/off operation, removable adjustable suspenders, a structured raised back, and silent snap closures.

With the garments’ design, KUIU has sought to leverage body-mapped 3DeFX+® insulation, strategically positioning heavier insulation in key areas, while lighter insulation goes where extra breathability is required.

Add in Silvadur® AM anti-odor treatment and an outer-layer fit, and the company says that the Proximity lineup comfortably layers over base layers, insulated mid-layers, and a safety harness, the latter being a must for serious whitetail hunters climbing into a high treestand for a cold and windy November sit.

With the system’s articulated design, high-stretch fabric, and streamlined sections, not to mention the quiet nature of the clothing articles, hunters should be able to easily draw a bow string or raise a cocked crossbow, and silently let loose a lethal shot that drives its way into the boiler room of a big whitetail standing with its steaming breath only yards away.

The end game for KUIU with this new product introduction is that one of the world’s top makers of high-tech, industry leading camouflage hunting clothes just upped the ante, becoming a leader in giving serious deer hunters something that will help them on those breathless cold mornings when a huge whitetail is slowly moving through the woods with his eyes blazing and his ears twitching and straining for every sound that might represent danger.

And when a carefully concealed and elevated stand hunter lets an arrow go downrange to seal the deal on a monster record book buck occupying ground less than 20-yards away, the end result will be a punched tag, a freezer full of wild meat, and a bowhunting trophy for the wall that will be admired for years to come.

All because of a clothing lineup like KUIU’s Proximity lineup, one that delivers toughness, warmth, and quietness, all in the same cool looking camouflaged package. With little doubt, this is complete and next-level concealment in every sense, giving serious big buck hunters another weapon in their arsenal this fall.

Or in this case, in their bowhunting closet.
